Exhibition Tour Schedule

Exhibition Tours are free and created to enhance your visit to the Museum, providing an in depth and unique perspective on exhibitions and objects. Tours for, Pretty Big Things: Stories of New Jersey History and American Perspectives: The Fine Art Collection start in September and run throughout the school year.

Exhibition tours are now available in Spanish. Perfect for language arts classes. Advance registration required. For reservations call (609) 292-1382.

 

Pretty Big Things: Stories of New Jersey History

A 1,400-pound anvil... an iron pot used to boil whale blubber... A statue of the tallest American president... A "grandfather" clock made by the first African-American clockmaker... Come take a journey through New Jersey history as we discover these and other Pretty Big Things. This professionally-led docent tour provides students and their teachers with a guided tour of the exhibition, including its background, the key historical themes, and details about the many unknown stories of New Jersey history. The docent tour includes time to ask questions and to explore the exhibit. Grades: 4-12.

Available most Tuesdays & Thursdays from September 8, 2011 to June 30, 2012. Limited to 25 participants per tour - reservations are required.

 

American Perspectives: The Fine Art Collection

Join one of the Museum's professionally trained Docents on a tour of the Museum's Fine Art collection. Students are guided through the diversity of voices and visions found from the 19th century to the present day. They learn where artists drew inspiration and how these inspirations have changed over time. Works created by a variety of artists - including academic, expressionist, folk, modernist and visionary artists - are shown in a chronological format in order to present the range, variety and complexity of America's fine art. Throughout the tour, important works by significant New Jersey artists are highlighted. Grades: 4 - 12.
